PDP Northern Elders to Wike: You Want to Wreck Our Party, Cripple Opposition Politics

By: Sunday Ameh

The Northern Elders Unity Forum of the Peoples Democratic Party has openly condemned moves they say are being orchestrated by Nyesom Wike and his allies to “destroy the party and cripple opposition politics” in Nigeria.

In a communique issued at the close of their 18th General Meeting, the elders reaffirmed their confidence in Ambassador Iliya Umar Damagum, the acting National Chairman of the PDP, and denounced efforts to sabotage the upcoming national convention scheduled for November 15–16 in Ibadan, Oyo State.

The Whistler Newspaper
Dr. Abbas Sadauki (Dan Madamin Tofa), National Secretary of the Forum, in a strongly worded statement, warned that no amount of “political intimidation, blackmail, or lies” would derail the convention or weaken party unity.

He went further to accuse certain members of the PDP National Working Committee of conspiring with external forces to destabilize the party. Sadauki alleged that Wike’s political influence is behind internal sabotage within the PDP, saying:

“It is unfortunate that some ungrateful elements, under the guidance of Mr. Nyesom Wike, are bent on destroying everything good about the PDP and other opposition movements. Whether through court cases or misuse of power, their mission is clear — to wreck the party. But they will fail.”

The Forum also urged the judiciary and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to be cautious about being manipulated by “political mercenaries” allegedly working to undermine democracy and the rule of law.

Lastly, the elders expressed unflinching loyalty to Damagum and other PDP leaders they described as “genuinely committed to rebuilding and uniting the party ahead of 2027.” They insisted that the decision of the PDP National Executive Committee (NEC) to proceed with the convention is binding and must be respected.
