PDP, Fubara encouraged me to accept ministerial position – Wike

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, has claimed that the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and Governor Siminalayi Fubara approved and accepted his appointment as the FCT minister.

Wike said he wrote to the PDP at all levels when President Bola Tinubu offered him the ministerial position.

Featuring on Channels TV programme, Politics Today, Wike said PDP and Fubara asked him to accept the position.

“Before I took this appointment, I wrote to the PDP. I wrote to PDP National; I wrote to PDP Zonal; I wrote to PDP in my state.

“My governor also signed a letter that I should take the appointment.

“Yes, it’s true. The zonal party wrote that I should accept,” he said.

Tinubu had appointed Wike as FCT Minister following his victory at the last presidential election.

During the 2023 election, Wike had worked for Tinubu against the PDP’s then-presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

But shortly after his appointment as the FCT minister, Wike fell out with his successor, Governor Fubara, over allegations that he was imposing his choice and rules on the new Governor.

The state has been embroiled in a crisis ever since.
