A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party has announced plans to hold high-level meetings with former presidential candidates Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar as part of efforts to reposition the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The PDP South-South Chairman, Emmanuel Ogidi, disclosed this during a television interview, where he said the consultations are aimed at restoring the party’s national relevance and strengthening its political base.
Ogidi explained that the party has already held discussions with former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Ibrahim Babangida, adding that similar meetings are being planned with Obi and Atiku due to their roles and influence in Nigeria’s political landscape.
He described the PDP as the true face of democracy in the country, noting that engaging key political stakeholders is part of a broader strategy to revive the party’s fortunes following recent electoral setbacks.
The development comes amid ongoing efforts by the PDP leadership to reconcile aggrieved members and prepare for upcoming off-season elections as well as the 2027 polls, against the backdrop of internal divisions that have plagued the party since the last general election.
