The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has refuted claims that Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has resigned from the party, insisting that no official notice has been received.
Speaking after a National Working Committee (NWC) meeting in Abuja on Tuesday, PDP National Chairman Kabiru Turaki said, “We have seen online a letter purportedly from him resigning from our party, but we have not received any formal indication that he has left.”
Turaki noted that Adeleke’s name remains on the official list of aspirants for the PDP’s Osun governorship primaries, adding that party officials will clarify whether he intends to participate in the upcoming election or formally withdraw.
He emphasized that Governor Adeleke, like any Nigerian, has the constitutional right to choose his political affiliation, but stressed that such decisions do not weaken the party. “Even if the letter circulating online is genuine, he retains the freedom to associate as he wishes,” Turaki said.
The PDP chairman further highlighted the party’s resilience, recalling its ability to withstand previous defections while maintaining strong grassroots support. “Our people have remained with us, and when elections come, they will show that the PDP is still solid,” he added.
The controversy follows reports that Adeleke allegedly resigned from the party due to persistent internal disputes. The letter, reportedly dated November 4, 2025, was addressed to the PDP chairman of Ward 2, Ede North Local Government Area, and circulated widely online, sparking speculation about the governor’s political future.
