Bode George, a senior figure in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has criticized former Vice President Atiku Abubakar for his recent visit to former President Muhammadu Buhari’s residence in Kaduna State.
George aired his grievances during an appearance on Arise Television’s ‘Morning Show’ on Tuesday, where he also rejected Atiku’s push for a coalition, which he views as an effort to weaken the opposition party.
Atiku has been advocating for the creation of a mega party to challenge President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections. His meeting with Buhari is perceived by some as an attempt to secure support for this political coalition.
Atiku was accompanied by other political figures, such as former Governors Nasir el-Rufai of Kaduna and Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto, during the meeting with Buhari.
In response, George questioned the purpose of the coalition, saying, “What is the goal of this mega party? You are part of a strong organization, but now you want to leave. You’re meeting with Buhari—who isn’t even a member of our party. Have you discussed this plan with others within the party? Do you think PDP is a private business? Nobody owns PDP. You should bring such ideas within the party, have a discussion, and get approval before proceeding. It’s wrong to make decisions solely based on personal interests.”
He added, “Look at Buhari meeting with these people. He’s not even in our party! We ran against him, and he defeated you. Yet, you’re going to him. And when you look at the people who went to see him, they all come from one side—where are the other members of our party?”
George concluded by expressing concern over Atiku’s motives, asking, “What is he really trying to do with this mega party? Is he aiming to create a division between the north and south of Nigeria?”
He urged PDP members to focus on unity and collaboration within the party, encouraging them to work together for the 2027 elections rather than backing a personal agenda to form a new political coalition.
