Operatives of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command have apprehended the General Overseer of Wells of Salvation Church, Reverend Pastor Prince Bassey Ajah, popularly known as ‘Daddy G.O.’, for alleged involvement in child trafficking.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Saturday by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Josephine Adeh, who confirmed that the cleric was arrested alongside two other suspects—Nancy Atoo and Deaconess Vera Duru—in connection with the illicit act.
According to Adeh, the arrest followed a distress call received on May 24, 2025, by the Gwagwalada Area Command from officials of Wazobia Motor Park in Gwagwalada, who reported a man exhibiting suspicious behaviour while attempting to travel with a minor.
She stated that an Emergency Response Team was swiftly dispatched to the park, leading to the arrest of one Isreal Ajah. He was caught trying to board a vehicle en route to Owerri, Imo State, in the company of a seven-year-old boy later identified as Muktar Hassan.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that the child was handed over to the suspect by his elder brother, Reverend Pastor Prince Bassey Ajah, who is the General Overseer of Wells of Salvation Church situated in Byazhin Across,” the police spokesperson revealed.
Following this discovery, police operatives arrested the cleric and two accomplices, Nancy Atoo and Deaconess Vera Duru, for their alleged roles in the trafficking scheme.
In the course of the investigation, a search conducted at the residence of Nancy Atoo led to the rescue of another victim—a four-year-old girl named “Mercy,” a name allegedly given to her by the suspect.
“No documentation or identifying information was found for the child, who is currently in protective custody as police intensify efforts to locate her biological family,” Adeh stated.
She added that further investigations revealed that both minors were being trafficked to Owerri for the purpose of being sold.
According to the suspects’ confession, arrangements to sell Muktar for the sum of ₦1.2 million were orchestrated by Deaconess Vera Duru.
The police spokesperson confirmed that Muktar Hassan has since been reunited with his family, while investigations into the child trafficking ring continue.
