A total of 86 Nigerian Army captains are set to take the 2025 Written Promotion Examination, which begins today (Monday) in Benin, Edo State.
The exam, taking place from May 12 to May 16, is organized by the Nigerian Army School of Supply and Transport.
At the opening ceremony on Sunday, Maj. Gen. Kevin Aligbe, the Commander of the Training and Doctrine Command and the President of the Examination Board, congratulated the officers for reaching this significant career milestone.
He emphasized that the exam represents an important step in advancing within the Army, encouraging the participants to uphold professionalism and discipline during the process.
“This examination is part of the Nigerian Army’s promotion system, aimed at cultivating a disciplined, professional, and merit-based officer corps in line with the Chief of Army Staff’s vision for a responsive and capable force,” Aligbe stated.
He also reminded the candidates that the exam is a prerequisite for promotion to the rank of Major, with officers allowed a maximum of three attempts to pass.
Aligbe cautioned that any candidate caught cheating or violating exam rules would face immediate disqualification and disciplinary action.
To motivate performance, he announced that cash prizes, awards, and certificates of commendation would be presented to the top three successful candidates.
“We expect each of you to succeed, and the marking process will be conducted with fairness and transparency,” he said.
Maj. Gen. Adebayo Adegbite, the Commandant of NASST, expressed pride in hosting the exam, emphasizing that it marks an essential moment in the professional development of the officers.
“You’ve completed a rigorous preparatory course, and the mock exam has tested your readiness. We are confident of a strong performance,” he said.
Adegbite also advised the participants to be mindful of the security situation in Benin, urging them to limit unnecessary movements, travel in pairs, and remain cautious throughout their stay.
