Opposition Party Wins Etche LGA Election in Rivers State

Uzodinma Nwafor, the candidate of the opposition Action Alliance (AA), has been declared the winner of the Etche Local Government Area (LGA) chairman election, held on October 5, 2024.

Adolphus Enebeli, Chairman of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), made the official declaration in Port Harcourt, the state capital, on Sunday.

According to Enebeli, Uzodinma Nwafor polled the highest number of votes to earn the victory.

The Action Alliance also secured all 19 councillorship positions in Etche LGA.

It should be noted that the governor of the state, Siminalayi Fubara is a member of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. The party boycotted the election citing court rulings against it.
