A fresh communal clash between suspected Fulani herders and natives has left one woman dead and several houses razed in Rwan and Kopmon communities of the Mushere District, Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The violent incident, which occurred in the early hours of Sunday, August 4, threw the affected communities into panic as residents fled for safety amidst rising tensions.
Confirming the incident, the Youth President of Mushere District said he promptly alerted security operatives at about 8:10 a.m. after reports of escalating violence reached local leaders.
While the exact cause of the clash remains unclear, community sources told Zagazola Makama that long-standing tensions and unresolved disputes between the groups may have contributed to the outbreak of hostilities. The confrontation reportedly led to the death of a woman and the destruction of multiple residential structures.
In response to the attack, troops of the Nigerian Army and operatives of the Joint Task Force were swiftly deployed to the scene to restore calm and prevent further escalation.
Security authorities have intensified surveillance in the area and assured residents that efforts are underway to apprehend those behind the attack.
“The situation is under control for now, and investigations are ongoing to bring the culprits to justice,” a security source confirmed.
