The Ondo State Police Command has raised an alert over a planned protest scheduled for Monday, April 7, 2025, allegedly being organized by the Take It Back Movement and its affiliated groups.
In a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka Olushola, the Command confirmed that it had received credible intelligence regarding the protest, expressing concerns over possible security threats.
While acknowledging the constitutional rights of citizens to peaceful assembly, the police noted that the timing of the protest was “ill-advised” due to ongoing economic challenges and efforts to maintain stability across the state.
“There are fears that the protest could be hijacked by miscreants and may lead to a breakdown of law and order,” the statement read.
The Command urged the organizers to reconsider their plans and instead embrace peaceful dialogue to address their concerns.
To ensure public safety, the Commissioner of Police, CP Wilfried Olutokunbo Afolabi, has ordered increased deployment of security personnel and operational resources to key public locations and critical infrastructure across the state.
The police also appealed to parents and guardians to discourage their children and wards from participating in activities that may threaten the peace.
Residents were encouraged to go about their daily activities without fear, as adequate measures have been put in place to ensure their protection. The public is also advised to report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station or security agency.
