The Ondo State Police Command has firmly rejected reports suggesting that Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) were instructed to contribute ₦39,000 each to support the deployment of officers to Lagos ahead of the forthcoming local government elections.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka Olushola, described the publication by Sahara Reporters as completely false and a deliberate attempt to mislead the public.
He clarified that the deployment of police personnel to Lagos was carried out based on the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and formed part of standard inter-command cooperation aimed at enhancing security during elections.
“There was no instruction whatsoever requiring officers to make financial contributions. The Command handled all necessary logistics and welfare arrangements to ensure a smooth deployment,” he stated.
The Command noted that several officers had already arrived at their assigned posts without facing any financial burden, contrary to the claims in the report.
The statement also accused the author of the report of lacking a proper understanding of police operations and attempting to distort facts for sensational purposes.
Urging the public to disregard the false report, the Command reaffirmed its dedication to professionalism, accountability, and public service in all its operations.
