A 34-year-old man, Abiola Awonugba, has been arraigned before an Akure Magistrate’s Court by the Ondo State Security Network, codenamed Amotekun Corps, for allegedly raping a housewife in the presence of her husband.
The incident reportedly occurred on August 23, 2025, around 3:30 p.m. at Ijo-Mimo, Ijoka Road, Akure South Local Government Area.
Prosecuting counsel, O.F. Akeredolu, told the court that Awonugba unlawfully had carnal knowledge of the woman in her home and inflicted injuries on her husband, identified as Mr. Fasore, during the assault.
The defendant faces a two-count charge bordering on unlawful sexual intercourse and infliction of physical injury, contrary to Sections 357, 358 and 335 of the Criminal Code Law of Ondo State, 2006.
Although his plea was not taken, the prosecutor prayed the court to remand Awonugba in a correctional facility pending legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
However, defence counsel, Kehinde Osadugba, sought an adjournment to enable him file a counter-affidavit against the remand application.
Presiding Magistrate, Tina Ayodele-James, granted the prosecution’s prayer, ordering that the defendant be remanded in custody. The case was adjourned till September 16 for ruling on the remand application.
