The Ondo State government, under the leadership of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has announced an initiative to recognise and award the best health staff for their hard work in 2025, with the awards ceremony set to take effect in 2026.
This announcement was made in a statement released on Saturday by Dr. Oluwafemi Akeredolu, a full-time board member of the Ondo State Hospital Management Board (HMB).
Starnews NG gathered that the awards will be held annually at the end of each year to celebrate the dedication and contributions of health staff from January to December every year.
The nomination process for the 2025 awards begins immediately (today) and will remain open until further notice. For the 2026 awards, nominations will be conducted in December 2026 and it will be like that for every year going forward, Starnews NG learnt.
According to Dr. Akeredolu, members of staff within the Hospital Management Board can submit nominations through their respective departments, while the public is encouraged to send their nominations via the HMB WhatsApp platform or through the comment section of the Starnews website platform.
Categories for the “Aiyedatiwa’s 2025 Best Health Personnel of the Year” Awards
The awards will encompass seven categories, recognising outstanding contributions across various departments within the HMB:
For Doctors:
- Best Doctor of the Year
- Best Medical Director (MD) of the Year
- Best Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the Year
For Nursing Services:
- Best Nurse of the Year
- Best Nursing Department of the Year
- Best Nursing Head of Department (HOD) of the Year
- Best Health Attendant of the Year
For Laboratory Department:
- Best Lab Scientist of the Year
- Best Lab HOD of the Year
- Best Lab Department of the Year
- Best Lab Technician of the Year
For Records Department:
- Best Records Officer of the Year
- Best Records HOD of the Year
- Best Records Department of the Year
For Pharmacy Department:
- Best Pharmacist of the Year
- Best Pharmacy Department of the Year
- Best Pharmacy HOD of the Year
- Best Pharmacy Technician of the Year
For Allied Workers:
- Best Allied Department
- Best Allied Worker of the Year
- Best Allied Technician of the Year
For Non-Clinical Staff:
- Best Hospital Secretary of the Year
- Most Honest Accountant of the Year
- Most Dutiful Junior Staff of the Year
- Best Hospital Driver of the Year
These categories highlight the diverse contributions of HMB staff who have demonstrated exemplary service to the state. The public is invited to nominate any HMB staff member who excelled in their role in 2025 and deserves this prestigious honour within the various categories outlined above, the statement concluded.
