Ondo Deep Sea Port: O.C. General hails Aiyedatiwa over licence revalidation

The Special Assistant to the Ondo State Governor on Forestry (South), Bidemi Obayangan O. C. General, has commended Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa for securing the revalidation of the licence for the Ondo Deep Sea Port, describing the development as a defining moment for the state’s economic advancement.

Obayangan while speaking with Starnews NG, said the successful revalidation of the licence by the Federal Government was a clear demonstration of Governor Aiyedatiwa’s resolve to drive large-scale infrastructural projects capable of transforming Ondo State into a major centre for trade and investment.

He noted that the governor received the revalidated licence from the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Chief Adegboyega Oyetola, in Abuja, after the earlier approval granted in 2023 was returned for correction due to errors in the original document.

According to him, the development reaffirmed the governor’s vision of ensuring that the proposed deep sea port functions as a hub for international trade, not only for Ondo State but for Nigeria and neighbouring West African countries.

Obayangan said Governor Aiyedatiwa had already assured that the state was ready to move the project forward, stressing that the deep sea port was designed to support industry, commerce and broader economic activities beyond the state.

The governor’s aide added that the size and depth of the port would eliminate the need for trans-shipment, as ships would be able to sail directly into Ondo State waters.

He further noted that the deep sea port would have far-reaching economic benefits, including increased movement of people into the state once construction begins, with positive implications for hospitality, financial services and humanitarian activities.

Obayangan also applauded the Federal Government for fast-tracking the revalidation process, saying the project would significantly impact Nigeria’s economy and firmly place Ondo State on the global maritime and trade map.
