The Ondo State Government has launched a registration exercise for farmers across its 18 local government areas.
The move, which began on Wednesday, aims to improve farming activities and increase food production throughout the state.
The government is asking all farmers to take part in the open registration process, which has no end date.
The registration can be done in various ways, including online, at local government offices, or at designated centers.
The goal is to create a clear database of farmers, detailing who they are, what crops they grow, and where they operate.
According to officials, the database will help the state plan better and provide support directly to farmers.
It is also expected to guide future agricultural policies and projects. The effort is part of a broader plan by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to develop agriculture in Ondo.
A recent executive order on agri-business is one of the steps taken to support this goal.
Currently, the registration has started with cocoa farmers under the state’s Cocoa Revolution Initiative.
It will soon include maize and cassava farmers.
There are also plans to provide farming tools like tractors in each senatorial district to support planting activities.
Government representatives say the process is open to every farmer, no matter their background or political beliefs.
The state said that accurate information about farmers will make it easier to tackle food challenges and support those working in agriculture.
