A 20-year-ol barber, Joseph Babatunde, has been sentenced to 14 years in prison by an Ondo State Chief Magistrate Court in Akure.
Babatunde was convicted after being found guilty of another criminal offense. He was apprehended by the state police for reportedly breaking into a property and stealing a Toyota Hilux jeep engine worth N1 million.
Additionally, Babatunde broke into a shop and stole 18 plastic chairs valued at N87,000 last week on Araromi Street in the Ijoka area of Akure.
He was subsequently charged and arraigned on four counts of burglary and theft.
According to the prosecution, his actions violated Sections 516 and 390 (9) of the Criminal Code Law of Ondo State, 2016. Babatunde pleaded guilty to all four counts.
In her ruling, the Chief Magistrate, C.M. Omole, held that, “the prosecution’s uncontradicted evidence corroborated the defendant’s admission of the crime.”
