Ondo Assembly commences screening of Commissioner nominees

The Ondo State House of Assembly is set to begin the screening of commissioner-nominees submitted by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, with the exercise commencing today in Akure, the state capital.

Speaker of the House, Olamide Oladiji, who made the announcement during Wednesday’s plenary, confirmed that the lawmakers had officially received the list of nominees forwarded by the governor.

According to Oladiji, the screening will be conducted in stages across three days—Thursday, Friday, and the following Monday—at the Assembly’s main chamber. He assured that the process would be thorough and transparent.

“The nominees sent by Governor Aiyedatiwa will appear before the House Committee of the Whole for a comprehensive screening process,” the Speaker said.

He further directed all nominees to present 40 copies each of their curriculum vitae and academic credentials when appearing before the lawmakers.

In support of the process, the Majority Leader, Hon. Oshati Olatunji, moved a motion to commit the governor’s letter to the Committee of the Whole, emphasizing the lawmakers’ resolve to scrutinize the nominees diligently on behalf of the people of the state.

“We are committed to conducting a proper review before confirming the nominees,” Olatunji said, adding that the sessions would commence at 9 a.m. daily.

Governor Aiyedatiwa had earlier sent a list of 12 nominees to the Assembly on June 12, seeking their confirmation as members of the State Executive Council.

The nominees include: Sunday Olajide, Amidu Takuro, Olaolu Akindolire, Igbekele Ajibefun, Oluwaseun Abosede Osamaye, Wale Akinlosotu, and Ayodele Akande.

Others are Tob Loko, Idowu Ajanaku, Alabi Johnson, Ayorinde Abiola Olawoye, and Omoyofunmi Segun Henry.
