The Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, Engr. Ade Adetimehin, has been accused of allegedly advocating for military intervention in Nigeria during recent political meetings with stakeholders in the state.
The reported remarks have raised concerns among political actors in Ondo, who questioned why a key political figure and leader of the ruling party would make such statements. Some stakeholders suggested that Adetimehin’s comments indicate a loss of faith in Nigeria’s democratic system.
An anonymous source, who attended one of the meetings, described the chairman’s remarks as unexpected and concerning. “The first time he mentioned the idea of military takeover, we were stunned. It was hard to believe what we were hearing. However, what started as a shock has now become a cause for worry since he keeps repeating it. I don’t know why he would say such things, but we stand firmly for democracy in this state, regardless of his views.”
Another APC member, who also chose to remain anonymous, acknowledged that Adetimehin made the statement but insisted it was said in jest. “Yes, the Chairman made the comment, but it was clearly a joke. Engr. Adetimehin has been a committed politician for years, and he understands the value of democracy. No reasonable person would call for military rule, especially someone who has invested so much in building our party and democratic institutions.”
Attempts to contact Engr. Adetimehin for clarification were unsuccessful, as his phone was switched off at the time of reporting. Meanwhile, the State APC Director of Media and Publicity, Steve Otaloro, urged party members to remain calm and avoid misinterpreting the Chairman’s remarks, assuring that the matter is being addressed.
