Comedian and singer Olamide Ogunleye, popularly known as Oluwadolarz, has spoken about the confusion surrounding his stage name and how it led to false assumptions about his character.
During a recent interview on the Open Up podcast, he explained that the name “Dolarz” originated in 2010 from a joke he made about the fluctuating value of the dollar against the naira.
The joke became popular, and people began calling him “Dolarz,” which eventually stuck.
Over time, the name took on a different meaning in the eyes of the public. Some assumed it was linked to fraudulent activities, leading to misconceptions about his integrity.
He revealed that this mistaken identity even caused some brands to avoid working with him, fearing that their reputation might be affected.
As he continued his career, he expanded his stage name by adding “Oluwa,” which means “God” in Yoruba, resulting in “Oluwadolarz.”
Despite his efforts to clarify the true meaning behind the name, he still had to deal with skepticism from those who believed the rumours.
The comedian expressed frustration over the assumptions but remains focused on his craft.
He said that as more people understand the origin of his name, the misconceptions will fade, allowing him to build stronger professional relationships and further his career without unnecessary obstacles.
