Ohanaeze warns Tinubu of plot to scuttle 2027 bid

The apex Igbo sociocultural group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has raised concerns over an alleged political conspiracy involving prominent figures, including two former Presidents, past military Heads of State, opposition elites, and discontented members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), aimed at thwarting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid.

In a statement by its Deputy President General, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, the group accused Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and four Southeast Governors of aligning with this plot, which allegedly seeks to exploit Nigeria’s economic challenges, insecurity, and perceived governmental insensitivity to incite unrest and destabilize the administration. Ohanaeze also claimed that these governors are working to undermine the influence of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike in Rivers State while destabilizing the Igbo leadership structure.

The group warned that the conspiracy is designed to discredit President Tinubu while positioning the plotters as champions of change, with the goal of forcing political concessions and aligning the Igbo Nation with Northern political blocs to unseat the President. It also accused Governor Hope Uzodimma of collaborating with opposition forces, recalling his controversial support for Ahmad Lawan during the APC primaries.

Ohanaeze urged President Tinubu to address Nigeria’s economic and security issues, emphasizing that the alleged plot could involve international backing to form alliances with Northern political establishments. The group called on the Igbo community and all patriotic Nigerians to resist these divisive schemes, describing them as a threat to democracy and the nation’s future.
