As President Bola Tinubu prepares for his visit to Enugu State, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the leading Igbo cultural organization, has called for the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
The group hopes that the President’s visit could pave the way for Kanu’s freedom.
In a statement, Ohanaeze expressed optimism that the federal government’s stance toward the Igbo community is improving.
The group also stressed that peace, unity, and economic prosperity are achievable through fairness and justice.
They noted that marginalization and insecurity only harm national progress.
Ohanaeze is hopeful that President Tinubu will take a significant step by ordering Kanu’s release, which would strengthen his rapport with the Igbo people and Nigerians at large, Sahara Reporters reports.
Tinubu’s visit will also include the commissioning of state projects under Governor Peter Mbah’s administration.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian government continues to clash with the judiciary over its refusal to honour court orders for Kanu’s release.
