The Ogun State Police Command has apprehended a suspect linked to the tragic death of popular singer Adesina Afeez, better known as Destiny Boy. The case has now been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Homicide Section, for a thorough investigation.
In a statement released to PUNCH Online on Monday, the police public relations officer, Babaseyi Oluseyi, confirmed the ongoing investigation. “The Ogun State Police Command has since commenced investigations into the death of Adesina Afeez, aged 22 years, popularly known as Destiny Boy. The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Homicide Section, for detailed investigation. One suspect is currently in custody while investigations are ongoing.”
News of Destiny Boy’s death emerged on Sunday, following the circulation of distressing videos showing his body being transported to a mortuary across social media, which sparked widespread grief and speculation regarding the circumstances of his passing.
In one of the viral videos, the artist was seen lying in the back of a vehicle, with cotton wool placed in his nostrils and ears.
An unidentified associate later attempted to clarify the situation in another video, stating that the singer had been grappling with a private health issue prior to his death. “God, I want to do this video before people start saying rubbish about Destiny Boy’s cause of death. We all came to this life to write our own history. May God rest his soul. Destiny was nursing a health issue in his body before he died. We tried for him, but he didn’t make it,” the man remarked.
Born Afeez Adeshina, Destiny Boy embarked on his musical journey at a young age, becoming renowned for his Fuji-infused sound. He began his career at T2 Boys Studios in Agege, where he initially served as a backup dancer for Fuji artist Pasuma.
He gained widespread recognition in 2019 after releasing a Fuji cover of Davido’s hit song “If,” which garnered significant attention on social media. Destiny Boy also released covers of popular tracks by artists such as Tekno, 2Baba, 9ice, and Small Doctor.
Throughout his career, the singer produced several notable songs, including “Lamba,” “One Transaction,” “Gbese,” “Billion Dollar,” “Mio Gbonkankan,” and “Lowkey.”
In November 2024, Destiny Boy and his partner, Iremide, welcomed their first child.
The police have stated that further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
