Ogun: Police nab suspect for stealing air conditioners, cables

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 31-year-old suspect, Lekan Ogunsanya, for allegedly vandalizing and stealing air conditioners and cables from a government residential area in Isoso, Sagamu Local Government Area.

According to reports from PUNCH Metro, Ogunsanya was apprehended on Thursday around noon while he was in the process of dismantling air conditioners from two houses in the neighborhood.

In a statement released on Friday, the command’s spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, confirmed that a resident noticed the suspect’s actions and quickly alerted others, leading to his arrest.

“Residents reported the incident to the Sagamu Division on Thursday after the suspect broke into two houses within the quarters and began dismantling cables and already installed air conditioners.

“A resident passing by the two houses noticed the suspicious activity and alerted others, leading to the suspect’s arrest.

“With the assistance of local security guards in the area, the suspect was apprehended and subsequently arrested by our officers, who responded promptly after receiving the report,” she said.

Odutola added that all the stolen items had been recovered as exhibits.

PUNCH Metro reported on June 11, 2024, that two suspects, Tobi Shonibare and Odusanya Oni, were arrested for allegedly stealing electric cables worth approximately N650,000 in the Isonyin community, located in the Ijebu North-East LG of the state.

After confessing to the crime, the suspects were charged in court.
