Ocean Surge: Senate approves three prayers for Sen Tofowomo on Ayetoro community

The Senate on Wednesday approved three prayers for Nicholas Tofowomo, the Senator representing Ondo South Senatorial at the 9th Assembly over the Ocean surge in Ayetoro community of Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State.

In a motion moved by the Ondo South Senator on the urgent need to rescue Ayetoro community in Ilaje local government of Ondo State from the Ocean Surge, the Senate has approved the following prayers.

i. That the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and the Ondo State Government should as matter of urgency respond and assist victims in the community as well as develop a master plan that includes building of ocean barriers to control flooding and ocean surge in the region;

ii. That the Nigeria Maritime, Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) should as a matter of urgency visit Ayetoro community and ascertain the level of destruction in the community with a view to proffer solution to prevent future occurrence; and

iii. That the Oil Producing Companies in the area should as a matter of urgency assist the community in re-building some of the infrastructure destroyed by the ocean surge.

Starnews Nigeria reports that Hundreds of homes and properties including schools, and hospitals were destroyed while over 2,000 persons were displaced by the last Ocean Surge that sacked Ayetoro community in the middle of November 2020.
