The Rivers State Judiciary has dismissed reports that the state’s Chief Judge, Justice Simon Amadi, is preparing to go on leave starting Thursday, March 7, 2025.
The judiciary’s response comes after speculation spread that Governor Siminalayi Fubara allegedly ordered the Chief Judge to leave the country to obstruct a rumoured impeachment plan by the Martin Amaewhule-led Rivers State House of Assembly.
In a statement from Port Harcourt, the Chief Registrar of the High Court, David D. Ihua-Maduenyi, rejected the claims, describing them as false and misleading.
He assured the public that the Chief Judge has not announced any such leave and has no intention of doing so.
According to the judiciary, the vacation schedule for judicial officers follows a standard pattern, including Christmas, Easter, and annual vacations.
The statement clarified that there is no provision for a year-long recess leave, as suggested by the report.
The judiciary urged those behind the false claims to withdraw their publication or face legal consequences.
It also advised the public to ignore the report, stating that it was designed to create confusion and unrest.
This development comes amid ongoing political tensions in Rivers State, where Governor Fubara and the state legislature have been engaged in a power struggle.
