Activist lawyer Deji Adeyanju has said that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has not provided a clear reason for the arrest of popular social media critic Martins Otse, better known as VeryDarkMan (VDM).
Adeyanju shared this update on Monday night after visiting VDM, who is currently in the custody of the anti-graft agency.
Adeyanju explained that despite repeated requests, EFCC officials confirmed there was no petition filed against the influencer, contradicting earlier reports that multiple Nigerians had submitted petitions.
Earlier on Monday, BBC Pidgin reported that VDM’s arrest was linked to several petitions. The outlet had quoted EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale.
However, the EFCC later denied this information, creating confusion about why VDM was taken into custody.
For now, the reasons behind his arrest remain unclear, even as lawyers continue to push for answers from the Commission.
The situation has sparked concern among VDM’s followers, who are eager to understand what led to his detention.
