Kayode Are, Nigeria’s ambassador to the United States, attended the first meeting of the US-Nigeria working group held in Abuja.
The meeting took place after Nigeria was again named a “country of particular concern” by US President Donald Trump.
The event happened on the same day the presidency officially announced Are’s appointment as Nigeria’s ambassador to the United States.
The Nigerian team at the meeting was led by the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, and included other top security officials.
The United States delegation was headed by Allison Hooker, the US under-secretary of state.
Both countries restated their shared commitment to fight banditry and terrorism, and to improve national security through stronger cooperation.
