Nigerian woman arrested in India for visa overstay

A Nigerian woman has been taken into custody by Indian authorities for allegedly remaining in the country after her visa had expired.

She was apprehended at her rented residence in the Kondhwa area of Pune by officials from the Foreigners Registration Office, part of the Pune City Police, following a tip-off from local residents.

According to a report by The Indian Express, the property owner and the real estate agent who facilitated her stay have also been interrogated. Police have filed charges against them for failing to report her undocumented presence to the appropriate authorities.

Deputy Commissioner of Police, Rajkumar Shinde, revealed that the woman overstayed her visa and had negotiated with the landlord and agent to remain in the apartment without the required legal documents.
