Nigerian Troops Arrest 54 Terror Suspects, Rescue 9 Kidnap Victims

Troops of the Nigerian Army have arrested 54 terror and criminal suspects and rescued nine kidnapped victims during coordinated operations across the country within the last 24 hours.

A senior military source at Army Headquarters, who spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday, said the operations also led to the neutralisation of several terrorists, recovery of arms and ammunition, rustled livestock, and destruction of illegal bunkering sites.

In the North-East, troops of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) successfully repelled an attack by Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP)/Boko Haram terrorists at Ngirboa Bridge, Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State.

The source disclosed that a family member of ISWAP fighters also surrendered to troops of the 192 Battalion in Gwoza, Borno State, after fleeing Kunde village in the Mandara Mountains.

In the North-West, troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA rescued eight kidnapped victims at Tungar Miragumi and Zugu villages in Bukkuyum, Zamfara State, and recovered 21 sheep during a counter-rustling operation in Anka. Additionally, 143 rustled sheep were recovered in Sabon Birni Local Government Area of Sokoto State, while a terrorist camp was destroyed.

Elsewhere, troops neutralised one terrorist during a gun battle in Sabuwa, Katsina State. Soldiers at a Forward Operating Base in Lilo, Bungudu Local Government Area of Zamfara, also killed six terrorists in a separate encounter.

In the South-South, two suspected sea pirates were arrested in Rivers State with locally-made weapons and a fibre boat. Similarly, operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), in a joint operation with troops, apprehended four narcotics suspects in Bayelsa State.

The source reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to safeguarding Nigeria, urging citizens to provide timely intelligence to security agencies to aid ongoing counter-terrorism and anti-crime operations.
