Authorities in India have arraigned a Nigerian man, Echzoaa Ezeawna Rio Abrnr, before a magistrate court in Mohali, Punjab, following his arrest for allegedly trafficking cocaine.
The suspect was reportedly found in possession of 540 grams of cocaine during a police stop near Golden Estate in Sector 115, Khooni Majra, Kharar. Officers also recovered a backpack containing Rs 10,000 in cash, a digital weighing scale, steel spoon, eight large and 10 small empty sachets, a roll of Zomato-branded tape, and various coloured rubber bands.
According to Indian newspaper The Indian Express, Abrnr, said to be a native of Awka in Imo State, Nigeria, was intercepted by Punjab Police at a routine checkpoint.
Senior Superintendent of Police, Harmandeep Hans, disclosed that initial investigations revealed the accused had transported the drugs from the National Capital Region (NCR) of Delhi. He allegedly sold narcotics primarily to students of nearby colleges and universities.
Hans noted that the suspect’s mobile phone has been handed over to forensic experts for analysis to uncover further links in the suspected drug distribution network.
Abrnr has been remanded in police custody for two days pending further investigation.
