Tragedy has struck the Uguru community in Nsukka, Enugu State, following the reported death of one of its sons, Agbo Onyeka, widely known as “Sky,” who passed away in a hospital in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, India.
The circumstances surrounding his death remain uncertain, but a heartbreaking video posted on Facebook showed Onyeka unresponsive on a hospital bed, with visible signs of distress.
In the background, a woman believed to be filming was heard crying and calling out his nickname, “Sky,” repeatedly.
Onyeka’s death has drawn comparisons with a similar case in 2018, when another Nigerian, Austine Osas, was found dead in his apartment in the Eldeco Society of Greater Noida.
Social media has since been flooded with tributes and expressions of sorrow.
One Facebook user, Sen Chijinkem Ugwuanyi, revealed that Onyeka had died weeks earlier and that plans were underway to repatriate his body for burial in Nigeria.
“The corpse is on the way and may be buried latest tomorrow (Monday) at his hometown,” Ugwuanyi wrote.
Another Facebook user, Luke Elder, who identified himself as a member of Onyeka’s hometown, said the family initially withheld the news from Onyeka’s parents due to his importance as the family’s breadwinner.
Friends and acquaintances described Onyeka as a kind, hardworking young man with a promising future.
“Life is terrifyingly fragile,” his friend, Ernest, wrote. “Everything you build and hope for can be gone in a moment. This world is unpredictable.”
“We have lost a genuinely good-hearted man,” added Obayi Chika.
However, Onyeka’s sister, Chiamaka, expressed frustration over the viral posts and accused social media users of exploiting her brother’s death for attention.
“You people are using my brother’s body for content. God will judge every one of you,” she stated.
Another mourner, Ugwuobute Nnabuike, offered condolences to Onyeka’s parents, Chief Anselm Ege Attah Agbo and his wife, praying for strength in their time of grief.
In a deeply emotional post, Peace Maker, a close associate, said, “Big bro Sky, may your soul rest in peace. You promised to return to Nsukka in December, but now it’s your body that is coming back. It’s been nine years since you left for India.”
