Nigerian halts 110-hour singing marathon over ‘health issues’

Isaac Geralds, the US-based Nigerian singer, has halted his attempt to set a 110-hour world record for the longest singing marathon by an individual.

The former MTN Project Fame contestant commenced the attempt on June 2 — to surpass India’s Sunil Waghmare’s 105-hour record set in 2012.

He started the five-day exercise at the Continent DC, Washington DC, in the United States.

During the attempt, Geralds delivered a rendition of several songs ranging from gospel to funk, hip-hop oldies, and Afrobeats.

But on Thursday evening, the singer’s management announced that he would halt the attempt at 98 hours, 26 minutes due to “health reasons”.

“Due to an unforeseen medical emergency, Isaac Geralds has had to step down from his attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the longest singing marathon,” a statement from Geralds’ team reads.

“Isaac achieved an incredible 98 hours, 26 minutes out of the 110-hour goal. We thank everyone for their unwavering support and encouragement throughout this remarkable journey.”

The singer had hoped to raise $500,000 and awareness for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

ASD is a neurological and developmental disorder that affects how people interact with others, communicate, learn, and behave

Isaac was a finalist in the 2017 edition of the MTN Project Fame.
