Mrs. Funke Agbor, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and President of the Nigerian Maritime Law Association, has been re-elected into the Executive Council of the Comité Maritime International for another three-year term.
The announcement was made in a statement by the Publicity Secretary of the Nigerian Maritime Law Association, Mrs. Omolola Ikeagwu, who confirmed that the re-election took place during the CMI General Assembly held on May 18, 2025.
Describing the development as a vote of confidence in Nigeria’s maritime legal leadership, Ikeagwu noted that Agbor, first elected into the council in 2022, has played a significant role in shaping global maritime law discussions.
Agbor also led the Nigerian delegation to the 2025 CMI Assembly in Tokyo, Japan, where important resolutions were adopted. Among the resolutions was the Lex Maritima, which provides international guidance on foundational principles of maritime law.
Ikeagwu emphasized the commitment of the Nigerian Maritime Law Association to the advancement of maritime legal practice in the country.
“The NMLA continues to lead the development and promotion of maritime law in Nigeria, serving as the primary professional body for maritime legal experts and stakeholders. It proudly represents Nigeria within the CMI,” she stated.
