…Says FG Conspiring With INEC TO Hijack Elections
Former Minister of Transportation, Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi, has declared that Nigeria is “completely destroyed” and urgently needs a complete transformation. In a candid interview following the unveiling of the interim executive of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Abuja, Amaechi expressed grave concerns about the current state of the nation, stating, “People can’t eat. People can’t buy food. There’s no money to buy food. Everything is gone. Inflation is at its peak.”
Amaechi, who recently resigned from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), accused both the APC and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of colluding to hijack the upcoming elections. He voiced his disbelief that he had not been expelled from the party after stating, “I warned them in writing, don’t even invite me to any meeting. You can’t be in a club where majority of people are stealing and you don’t say anything.”
When asked about his decision not to support the government, Amaechi responded, “No, it’s not about changing the government; it’s about changing Nigeria.” He lamented the current administration’s failures, suggesting that many Nigerians are longing for the return of former President Muhammadu Buhari, saying, “People are asking for Buhari because things were better during Buhari’s administration.”
Amaechi further remarked on the dire economic situation, pointing out the soaring exchange rate: “Dollar was, I think, ₦460 or five hundred and something; now a dollar is one thousand five hundred and eighty, that is more than one hundred percent.” He concluded by emphasising that any government failing to consider the well-being of its citizens is not effectively governing, reflecting on President Tinubu’s approach: “He said he is not here to make Nigerians happy.”
Amaechi’s powerful statements underscore the urgent need for change in Nigeria as the nation grapples with economic challenges and political turbulence.
