Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 general election, has voiced his deep concern over the severe hardships faced by Nigerians, stating that the country is on the brink of collapse.
He made these remarks while addressing party members during the ongoing National Executive Council meeting in Abuja on Wednesday.
“Do not fear anyone. Those who were afraid yesterday achieved nothing,” he said. “We must speak out when things are going wrong. Nigeria is collapsing. The data is clear; the indicators show that people are becoming poorer each day.”
Obi emphasised the importance of unity and inclusivity within the party, asserting, “The Labour Party has chosen to be a family, and we must operate as one. It’s not just about Peter Obi’s vision; it’s about everyone’s vision. This family excludes no one. We aim to build a party that is fair and just.”
Looking ahead to future elections, Obi stated, “We want to enter the next election fully prepared, presenting Nigerians with the best and most competent candidates for the House of Representatives, the Senate, governorships, and the presidency.”
He also underscored the significance of party loyalty and competence among aspirants: “We need to rectify the mistakes we made in the past. Anyone wishing to contest under our party must be a committed member, not just someone passing through. They must be competent.”
