Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has sacked all 30 special advisers serving in his administration as part of a move to restructure and strengthen governance in the state.
The decision was announced on Tuesday during the governor’s first State Executive Council meeting with newly sworn-in commissioners at the Government House in Minna.
In a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Bologi Ibrahim, Governor Bago explained that the sack was intended to allow for a reorganisation of the advisers’ roles to enhance efficiency and performance.
According to the statement, the termination of the appointments is aimed at repositioning the administration in line with the governor’s “New Niger Agenda.”
“The termination of their appointment was to allow me to rejig and reposition their portfolios with the view to making them more effective and efficient in line with my New Niger agenda,” the governor said.
Governor Bago also expressed appreciation to the affected advisers for their service and contributions to the success of his administration, noting that the decision was part of a broader reform process.
“I appreciate them for their sacrifices and contributions towards the success of my administration and also wish them well in their future endeavours,” he added.
The decision formally ends the tenure of all special advisers in Niger State as the governor moves to restructure his administration for improved service delivery.
