The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has issued a strong warning to students and the general public over a fake student loan portal that is currently circulating online. The organization raised the alarm in a statement released in Abuja by its Director of Strategic Communications, Mrs. Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, on Monday.
According to the statement, the fake message being shared online falsely claims that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed the reopening of the student loan application portal.
The fraudulent message includes a link to a bogus website, which has no connection to NELFUND.
Oluwatuyi stressed that the site in question is fake and urged Nigerians to disregard both the message and the link it contains.
She clarified that the information being peddled is completely false and misleading.
She reiterated that the official website for applying for the NELFUND student loan remains www.nelf.gov.ng.
“Any other portal or link claiming to represent the organization is fraudulent and should be avoided.”
Oluwatuyi cautioned students, parents, and guardians not to engage with any unverified websites or provide their personal or financial details on suspicious platforms, warning that doing so could put their sensitive information at risk.
Assuring the public of NELFUND’s commitment to transparency and fairness, she stated that the Fund would always communicate important updates through official and verified channels.
She also encouraged anyone who receives suspicious messages or comes across fake websites related to student loans to report such incidents directly to NELFUND via email or through its official social media handles.
Oluwatuyi emphasized that the Fund remains focused on ensuring the safety and integrity of the loan application process for all qualified Nigerian students.
