The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has dismissed circulating rumors that its Statistician-General, Adeniran Adeyemi, was questioned by the Department of State Services (DSS).
This clarification follows the release of a report revealing that Nigerians paid N2.23 trillion in ransom over the past year.
The report, part of the bureau’s Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey, was published on December 17 and drew significant public attention.
Shortly after its release, the NBS website was hacked, fueling speculations and allegations regarding the methodology and data presented.
However, the agency’s Head of Communications, Ichedi Sunday, firmly denied any DSS involvement, stating that Adeyemi was not contacted or interrogated.
The bureau maintained that the report stands as an important contribution to understanding crime trends in the country.
