Suspended Senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, on Sunday issued a satirical apology to Senate President Godswill Akpabio following her previous allegations of sexual harassment against him.
Her letter, filled with sarcasm, was shared with journalists while Akpabio was in Rome attending the funeral of the late Pope Francis as head of a Federal Government delegation.
Earlier reports had noted that Natasha’s suspension on March 6 came after a tense exchange with Senate leadership over a revised seating arrangement, which she alleged was intended to sideline her.
The dispute intensified when Akpoti-Uduaghan publicly accused Akpabio during a national TV interview of punishing her for allegedly refusing his advances.
While speaking at the Women in Parliament event during the Inter-Parliamentary Union meeting at the United Nations in New York, she appealed for international intervention, criticizing the Senate for withdrawing her security, slashing her salary, and suspending her for six months.
Both Natasha and Akpabio were later barred by a court from addressing the media or making public statements regarding the matter until the legal proceedings conclude.
Nonetheless, shortly after Akpabio’s trip to the Vatican, Natasha penned a mock ‘apology’ addressed directly to him.
The letter read in part:
“Dear Distinguished Senate President Godswill Akpabio, It is with the deepest sarcasm and utmost theatrical regret that I tender this apology for the grievous crime of possessing dignity and self-respect in your most exalted presence.”
She continued by criticizing a culture where, according to her, political advancement seemed to depend not on merit but on personal compliance.
“How remiss of me not to realize that refusing your ‘requests’ was more than personal choice — it was an offense against unwritten laws of entitlement. I apologize for choosing competence over submission, vision over vanity, and the people’s mandate over private dinners,” she wrote.
Further in the letter, Natasha mocked the “bruising of egos so large they require their own postcodes,” sarcastically expressing “fictional shame” for disrupting the so-called expected order.
In her closing, she stated,
“Please find it in your magnanimous heart — buried beneath layers of entitlement — to forgive this stubborn woman who mistakenly believed that her seat in the Senate was earned through elections, not erections. I remain Yours in eternal resistance, Senator Natasha H. Akpoti-Uduaghan — Unafraid, Unbought, and Unbroken.”
