Suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, has dismissed claims that she apologized to the Senate over the events leading to her suspension.
In a statement on Monday, she described the reports as “false and misleading,” insisting that she has not withdrawn any of her statements.
“The claims that I have apologized to the Senate or altered my stance are completely untrue. I stand firmly by my words and have not offered any apology to the Senate or anyone regarding this matter,” she stated.
She accused those behind the misinformation of attempting to mislead the public and distort facts.
Following her suspension, which resulted from a dispute with Senate leadership, Akpoti-Uduaghan reiterated her commitment to representing her constituents. She alleged that certain individuals were working to suppress her voice through fabricated reports.
“I urge the public to disregard these misleading stories. My resolve remains strong in the pursuit of truth, justice, and the interests of those I represent,” she said.
Expressing concern over what she described as a calculated attempt to undermine democracy, she vowed not to succumb to pressure or intimidation.
“This is about more than just me; it is about defending democratic values. I will not be silenced by false reports or coercion,” she affirmed.
Following her suspension, calls for her recall have intensified, with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) confirming the receipt of a petition to initiate the process.
Her suspension stemmed from a disagreement with Senate President Godswill Akpabio over seating arrangements. She has also accused Akpabio of sexual harassment, taking the matter to national and international bodies, including the United Nations Inter-Parliamentary Union.
Warning the public against misinformation, she advised that any official statements from her would only be released through her verified platforms.
“I deeply appreciate the support of my people. Be assured that my fight for justice and fairness will continue,” she said.
