The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has declared strong support for the leadership of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, condemning what it described as a “coordinated sabotage campaign” against the company’s reform initiatives.
In a statement released on Friday and signed by the NANS National Public Relations Officer, Comrade Adeyemi Ajasa, the student body expressed deep concern over NNPC Ltd.’s recent public alert about deliberate attempts by internal and external actors to derail its transformation agenda.
“These elements, threatened by reform, transparency, and accountability, have resorted to spreading misinformation, scandalous fabrications, and calculated falsehoods in a desperate bid to derail the patriotic effort to reposition NNPC Ltd. into a corruption-free, performance-driven energy institution,” the group stated.
NANS connected the company’s transformation efforts to President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which it said is geared towards restoring integrity and operational efficiency in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector. Representing over 40 million students at home and abroad, the association described the reforms as both timely and essential.
“We unequivocally declare our total support for the leadership of NNPC Ltd. and the bold reforms of the Tinubu administration in the petroleum sector. The current transformation is not just timely. It is vital to securing the future of our economy and national sovereignty,” NANS said.
Issuing a stern warning to those it described as “enemies of progress,” the student body threatened nationwide mobilisation if the alleged sabotage persists.
“If those behind this campaign of calumny and vendetta do not immediately cease their actions, NANS will mobilize in massive numbers across the country to resist them. We are prepared to take lawful, peaceful but firm action to defend the integrity of NNPC Ltd.,” Ajasa warned.
Describing the attacks as “corruption fighting back,” NANS called on the media, civil society organisations, and all patriotic Nigerians to defend the reform agenda in the energy sector.
“We will confront sabotage with solidarity. We will match misinformation with the truth. We will counter regression with resolve,” the statement concluded.
