No fewer than 95 terrorists have been neutralised in a series of coordinated airstrikes conducted by the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) under Operation Fasan Yamma in Niger State.
The successful operation, which took place on Tuesday, targeted terrorists moving in a convoy of motorcycles between Ragada and Warari villages in Rijau Local Government Area. The airstrikes were launched following credible intelligence that revealed the movement of the armed group from Zamfara State through Kebbi into Niger.
According to security sources who spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the terrorists were intercepted around 3:00 p.m. while attempting to infiltrate Warari and Rijau axis on 108 motorcycles, heavily armed with sophisticated weapons.
“NAF fighter jets engaged the bandits between Ragada and Warari villages, specifically around coordinates 10° 54′ 1.51” N and 5° 25′ 4.96” E,” the source disclosed.
It was confirmed that only 13 motorcycles managed to escape the onslaught, while the remaining fighters were eliminated during the intense aerial bombardment.
Residents of Makuku, Warari, and Ragada communities have expressed gratitude to the Federal Government and the military for the swift and decisive response against the terrorists. Many hailed the air operation as a major boost in the ongoing fight against banditry and insecurity in the North-West region.
The source added that intelligence operatives within the area had verified the success of the operation, describing it as one of the most effective air missions in recent times.
This latest success further reinforces the Nigerian military’s resolve to rid the country of criminal elements threatening peace and stability in rural communities.
