The National Association of Academic Technologists has given the Federal Government 14 days to address unresolved issues affecting its members or face industrial action.
In a communiqué issued after its National Executive Council meeting at the Federal University, Lafia, the union criticised the Ministry of Education for failing to hold regular talks on outstanding matters. It recalled that only one session had been held with the government’s renegotiation committee since December 2024 despite an earlier agreement to review salaries, allowances and other conditions of service.
The association listed key demands including the completion of the renegotiation of the 2009 FGN/NAAT agreement, the mainstreaming of earned allowances into salaries to prevent arrears, and the release of the enabling circular for CONTISS 14 and 15 to allow members to reach the peak of their careers. It also decried delays in monthly salary payments which it said have worsened the hardship faced by members.
NAAT warned that if its demands are not met at the expiration of the ultimatum, it will embark on strike to press home its points. It also restated calls for the release of N50 billion to settle outstanding earned allowances and urged the government to implement the new national minimum wage adjustment, pay withheld salaries, and release arrears of occupational hazard allowances and third-party deductions.
According to the communiqué signed by its National President, Ibeji Nwokoma, the union remains open to dialogue but said it would not hesitate to act if the government fails to respond within the deadline.
