Musa Urges Eagles to Give Him Birthday Gift with Benin Win

By: Sunday Ameh

Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa has called on his teammates to celebrate his birthday with a victory against the Benin Republic in their crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying match in Uyo.

In a video shared on the Super Eagles’ official X (Twitter) account, the 33-year-old forward said the most meaningful birthday gift would be securing the three points needed to keep Nigeria’s qualification hopes alive.

“Hello guys, today is the day, and today is my birthday. We all know what is at stake… I know you can do it. This is the best birthday gift you’re gonna give me, guys,”
Musa said in the video message.

He encouraged the team to replicate their spirited performance from the previous qualifier, adding:
“Hope so far good. I know we can do it. Let’s do it again today. Best of luck.”
Musa — Nigeria’s most-capped player — turns 33 today and remains a strong motivational figure for the squad.

The Super Eagles face Benin Republic at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo, needing a win to stay in contention for a World Cup slot.

Nigeria currently sits third in Group C with 14 points — three behind leaders Benin and one behind South Africa.

To progress, the Eagles must beat Benin Republic and hope South Africa fails to defeat Rwanda in Mbombela. Even if South Africa wins, Nigeria will require a convincing margin to secure a playoff spot.

The team will be without Ademola Lookman (suspended), and defenders Ola Aina and Bright Osayi-Samuel due to injuries.
Kick-off is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. (Nigerian time) at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium.
