Muslims across Nigeria may continue fasting on Sunday as the crescent moon, which signals the end of Ramadan, has not been sighted. The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, led by the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, announced this on Saturday.
According to the Council, the search for the moon took place on the 29th day of Ramadan, as is the usual practice. However, with no confirmation of the crescent’s appearance, fasting is expected to continue, pending further developments. If the moon is seen by Sunday, March 30, 2025, it will mark the beginning of Shawwal and the celebration of Eid-el-Fitr.
The Council advised Muslims to stay vigilant for any updates while awaiting an official declaration from the Sultan regarding the end of the holy month. Eid-el-Fitr marks a significant celebration after the fasting and prayers observed during Ramadan.
