Midnight Fire Destroys Rice Mill in Kogi

By Our Correspondent

A devastating fire swept through a rice mill in Ega-Idah, the administrative center of Idah Local Government Area, Kogi State, in the early hours of Thursday.

The incident, occurring around 3:00 a.m., was reportedly triggered by an explosion that reverberated across the area.

The mill, a joint venture between two partners, the late Muhammed and Amodu, played a vital role in supporting farmers and traders in Idah and nearby Ibaji communities.

A security guard at the site described hearing a striking noise, followed by a spark and an explosion that rapidly engulfed the facility.

With the region experiencing a power outage at the time, identifying potential suspects became challenging.

The mill’s destruction, valued at over ₦200 million, has left rice merchants and farmers facing serious challenges, particularly during the festive period when rice demand usually surges.
