The Muslim Media Watch Group of Nigeria has urged the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities to shift grounds in order to pave the way for an amicable resolution of the prolonged strike.
The Executive Director of MMWG, Alhaji Ibrahim Abdullahi in a statement in Ilorin, Kwara State on Tuesday stressed the need for the parties involved in the crisis to shift grounds becomes necessary in view of the incalculable damage the prolonged ASUU strike has done to the university education system.
He said the strike has also taken its toll on the businesses of some Nigerians.
Abdullahi said that the hardline posture of ASUU and the federal government could not help matters.He appealed to ASUU’s leadership to show more patriotism by calling off the strike since the government has accepted the new payment platform.
He said further negotiations for better pay and fulfillment of other parts of the 2009 agreement could continue after the ASUU might have called off the strike.
Abdullahi also asked the federal government to waive the ‘no work, no pay’ policy on this particular ASUU strike, pointing out that the matter is now delicate and cannot be resolved by any hardline stance.He noted that ASUU’s strike is creating economic hardship for some Nigerians and it is reversing the educational gains already achieved.
