Many Feared Dead As Unknown Gunmen Attack Popular Nightclub

 

There has been palpable tension in Anambra State after some rampaging gunmen attacked a nightclub on Sunday night.

Many people were reportedly killed during the attack on the Nightclub called Porsche in Oba, Idemili North Local Government Area of the State.

Details of the attack are still hazy and the identity of the attackers are not known yet.

However, one Chukwuemeka Ezefunamba said the gunmen came to kidnap the owner of the club but were resisted by security men attached to the club.

As a result of the resistance, the gunmen started shooting sporadically, killing many people in the process.

They also beheaded one of the security men who resisted them from taking the owner of the nightclub,” Daily Post quoted him as saying

Spokesperson of the state police command, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga confirmed the incident on Monday.

He said the police received a distress call about the attack and they swung to action but they assailant fled the scene before they arrived there.

He said: “Yes, the incident happened. Our men were alerted and they quickly moved to the scene of the incident but the gunmen had already fled.

“Our men have recovered the bodies of the vigilante operatives who were fatally wounded, while others sustained various degrees of injury.

“We have also fully deployed our men to Oba and an operation is ongoing. So far, no arrest has been made,” he said.

Recall that another nightclub owner and popular witch doctor, Akwa Okuko, had been attacked months back in the same community.

He later confessed that he surrendered himself to avoid collateral damage that would have happened if he resisted. It was rumoured that he paid over N400 million to regain freedom.
