Man Utd Confirm ‘Welcome Back’ Plan for De Gea at Old Trafford

Manchester United have officially announced plans to welcome back former goalkeeper David De Gea to Old Trafford this Saturday, as the Spanish shot-stopper returns with his new club Fiorentina for a pre-season friendly.

The Premier League giants revealed that a special ceremony will be held to honour De Gea’s immense contribution during his time at the club. The tribute will involve both players and fans, celebrating his legacy as one of United’s most iconic modern-era goalkeepers.

De Gea, who made 545 appearances across a 12-year stint at Manchester United, left the club in the summer of 2023 as a free agent. His exit followed a controversial decision by then-manager Erik ten Hag not to extend his contract, despite the Spaniard’s long-standing service and status as a fan favourite.

Following a year away from competitive football, De Gea recently signed for Italian Serie A side Fiorentina. His return to Old Trafford this weekend marks his first appearance at the Theatre of Dreams since his departure.

The upcoming fixture is expected to be emotionally charged, as United faithful prepare to give the 33-year-old a rousing welcome back.
