A 23-year-old man, Prince Nyerovho, has been detained in Sapele, Delta State, on charges of allegedly killing his 65-year-old father after ingesting a synthetic drug known as “Colorado.”

According to Vanguard, the incident, which took place on Sunday in the Amukpe area, has left the local community in shock.

Family sources indicate that Prince had been struggling with addiction to synthetic cannabinoids, also known as “Spice,” which led to violent and erratic behavior. His history of drug abuse reportedly made him increasingly unpredictable, with past violent incidents, including an alleged attempt to strangle his mother.

A family member explained, “This wasn’t the first time Prince became violent under the influence of drugs. His addiction worsened over time, and despite his mother’s best efforts to get him help, the financial burden became overwhelming.”

Prince’s mother had sought help for her son from rehabilitation centers in Benin City and a mental health facility in Sapele, but was unable to continue due to financial limitations.

On the day of the incident, after consuming “Colorado,” Prince reportedly demanded N5,000 from his father. When his request was denied, he became furious. His father attempted to de-escalate the situation by locking himself in his room, but this only provoked Prince further.

In a violent outburst, Prince allegedly broke down the door to his father’s room. His younger sister, who attempted to intervene, was injured in the process. One neighbor recalled, “She tried to stop him, but he wouldn’t listen. It was terrifying to witness.”

Neighbors, alerted by the noise, rushed to the scene and discovered the father’s lifeless body on the floor, having been fatally stabbed. The younger sister’s cries for help prompted the community to act.
